The $162 million renovation project of the Family Court and the former state Supreme Court buildings on Richmond Terrace has been green lit. The Staten Island Borough President's Office says the city will be soliciting bids to design the project which will be done in two phases. The first will renovate the landmarked Family Court Building which was constructed in 1930 and include a tower. The idea is to bring several annexes of the court under one roof. While the project is underway Family Court will move to the old State Supreme Court Building at 18 Richmond Terrace. The second phase of the project will renovate that former Supreme Court building which currently houses Surrogate's Court. A timeline of completion for the project has not yet been determined.
