A non-profit is helping Staten Islanders warm up this winter — with a new coat.
The Council Of Jewish Organizations (COJO) for Staten Island teamed up with Assemblyman Michael Cusick to distribute coats Tuesday at the 121 precinct in Graniteville.
As people came in to take coats, they also picked up a bag of groceries from the COJO food pantry.
"If somebody is cold they can catch a cold, they can get sick," said Mendy Mirocznik, President of COJO. They can't focus on their learning. They cannot focus on their employment."
"I'm getting a new winter coat for me and my son," said Gail Graham.
"Well you know despite how people look that don't mean that they not in need," said Barbara Hart.
The coats were all donated by area residents.
