Kids with special needs soon will get the chance to hit the ground running.

Borough Hall is teaming up with New York Road Runners and Autism Speaks to bring an "open run" to Staten Island, specifically for those on the autism spectrum.

Borough President James Oddo announced Thursday that on April 3, Conference House Park will host the first run and every Sunday after.

"I think it's going to have a tremendous impact on the children and their parents, too. I think the parents will benefit and it's going to be a wonderful sort of opportunity to provide something that maybe wasn't there before for this community," said Michael Schnall of New York Road Runners.

"It's a pretty simple way of offering families touched by autism this chance to bond, and who know what other good things could come from it," Oddo said.
