A Staten Island man is working his magic to inspire the next generation of bookworms.
Local magician Michael Lane put on a show Monday at Barnes and Noble to support the Islandwide Readers are Leaders Challenge.
The Borough Hall initiative asks 4th graders from about 50 schools to read at least 6 books in a 5 week period.
Students will then write a report on their favorite book for a chance to win a prize this spring.
Lane is running a challenge of his own for students who read his 4 book series about the world of magic.
"I'm gonna read my favorite book report, I will choose the best one in my opinion. First place - I'll go to that school I'll do a magic show," said Magician Michael Lane.
Lane will also give the winners signed copies of his books.
