Thanks to one Island non-profit organization, the Jewish Community Center now has whole new sets of wheels -- wheelchairs, that is.
The Emergency Children's Help Organization, or ECHO, donated four all-terrain wheelchairs to the Center Thursday.
The new wheelchairs will be used by children who are in "Marvin's Camp," a summer program at the JCC specifically for special needs children.
Center directors say these chairs will allow children with limited mobility to enjoy more outdoor activities.
“We really feel that we're including everyone who has a disability, those who are physically disabled. And now they're able to also enjoy a full camp experience,” said Yoni Wiesel, Director of Special Needs Services at the JCC. “
They couldn't do certain activities, now they can. And it will make them feel like they can do everything everyone else can do and that feeling's got to be something,” said Sebastian Angelico, Chairman of the Emergency Children's Help Organization.
Each chair costs about a thousand dollars.
