Manhattan-bound 7, N and W trains began bypassing Queensboro Plaza for two weeks starting on Monday due to construction on a project to make the station fully accessible, the MTA said.
The trains will bypass the station from Monday, July 31 at 5 a.m. through Monday, Aug. 14 at 5 a.m., the agency said.
The MTA encourages customers seeking the Manhattan-bound service to use the elevator accessible at the E, M, and R lines at the Queens Plaza station. The Queens Plaza station will have service in both directions, the release said.
Customers will also have the option to enter the Queensboro Plaza station to take the Flushing-bond 7 line to 33rd Street Rawson or the Astoria-bound N and W lines to 39th Ave—Dutch Kills, for access to a Manhattan-bound service, the MTA said.
The MTA says construction on the overall project is expected to be completed by the third quarter of 2024 and includes the installation of two elevators – one at the southern entrance of the station, and the other connecting the mezzanine with two platforms.
In addition, the accessibility upgrades will include “security and communication enhancements such as a fire alarm system, installation of a new security camera system, a new public address system, digital information screens, and access to information via digital screens,” the MTA said.
Additional weekend service changes at the station are anticipated later in the year and next year, according to the MTA.
