LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Starting Sunday, Jan. 26, service changes will take effect at the Transit Authority of the River City or TARC.
Keith Mikulka has ridden the TARC bus for the past 15 years. He said rides all the time, and the bus takes him where he needs to go.
“I depend on them. I have a bike, but I still depend on TARC to get me from point A to point B, especially when it’s cold out,” said Mikulka.
He’s well aware of the upcoming service changes at TARC.
“It’s gonna be a lot slower because they’re doing the changes,” he said.
TARC’s Marketing and Communications Director, Alex Posorske, explained the changes.
“Effective Sunday, January 26th, TARC is implementing a wide range of service changes, including service reductions and routing changes. These changes are going to affect 11 different TARC routes. There’s a lot to them. It’s really important for TARC customers to check in at TARC’s website, ridetarc.org,” Posorske, said.
He added why the changes are taking place.
Posorske explained, “TARC is facing a pretty unprecedented financial challenge. We’re looking at a gap of up to $30 million over the next couple of years. These changes are designed to help address that gap which is something we have to do moving forward, but also to make sure that existing TARC service is more reliable to people can count on when we say we’re gonna be somewhere at a certain time, that indeed TARC will be there.”
Mikulka isn’t sure if his bus routes are affected, but he’s going to keep riding.
“I have to. I have no choice,” he said. “These are the only busses I can ride.”
According to TARC, the Jan. 2025 proposed service changes are not part of the TARC 2025 network redesign process.
In addition to its website, TARC also recommends customers call their customer care line at 502-585-1234 if they have questions.
