Family and friends said goodbye Friday to former New York Knicks forward Anthony Mason.

A public service was held at Greater Allen AME Church in Jamaica.

Former teammates and members of the community came out to honor the Queens native, who died last week of congestive heart failure.

"We're going to miss him," said John Starks, Mason's former Knicks teammate. "I mean, he meant a lot to us. He meant a lot to the organization when he played here, and even after his playing days, he meant a lot to the city itself. And being from Queens, he was very prideful in that."

"I just know a lot of my family, friends that went to school with him," said another person who attended the service. "And he's just one of the stars of the community."

Mason played 13 seasons in the NBA, including five with the Knicks. He was a member of the 1994 Knicks team that advanced to the NBA Finals and was voted Sixth Man of the Year in 1995.

Anthony Mason was 48.
