Police say a dispute over $24,000 in back rent led to murder.
Sandra Coto Navarro walked out of the 107th Precinct in Queens on Thursday. She’s accused of killing her superintendent, Jose Portillo, when he came to collect rent.
“He was a very nice guy. Everyone on the block knew him. He spoke to everyone. He smiled to everyone,” Arlet Halili said.
Police were still on scene Thursday at the Kew Gardens Hills apartment following the discovery of Portillo’s body two days earlier.
Police found the body stuffed in trash bags underneath a bed in the apartment following a wellness check called in by the property owner.
Security footage allegedly shows Portillo entering the apartment Tuesday morning but not exiting.
While Navarro lives with her husband, he is not accused of any wrongdoing at this time.
Navarro is facing a second degree murder charge.
