That's when he gave his address to police, a building on Milburn Street in the Springfield Gardens neighborhood of Queens.

“Upon the arrival, the resounding officers found two individuals. One adult male and one adult female unconscious. The officers rendered aid and called for EMS,” said Assistant Chief Kevin Williams, commanding officer of Patrol Borough Queens South. ”The officers then went through the remainder of the house looking for additional victims and found an adult female in the upstairs bedroom also unconscious and unresponsive.”

Emergency workers determined all three of the victims died at the scene.

“You’ve got to be able to talk to people these days instead of be that violent,” said Cheryl, a neighbor who chose not to give her name.

“It is surprising,” she said. “It really is surprising. And for someone to take out three people at once makes it really crazy.”

NYPD law enforcement officials said all victims suffered multiple stab wounds - though it’s not clear exactly how many. The medical examiner’s office will determine the official causes of death.

“The investigation is still ongoing and we have not recovered a weapon yet,” Williams said.

Police believe the stabbings were motivated by a dispute over rent.

“My daughter is 9 years old and my nephew is 9 years old and they’re both in the house. So definitely, it’s crazy,” said neighbor Alfred Felder.

Felder lives several houses away from the crime scene.

While the incident is disturbing, he and other neighbors NY1 spoke to said they feel a bit safer knowing the landlord, who police call the suspect, is in police custody.

“I’m glad it was an isolated event, but at the same time you never want anything like that to happen to anyone,” Felder said.

“I’ve lived here 15, going on 16 years, and I’ve never had issues … issues with safety around here,” said neighbor Tirell Smith.
