A driver of a dump truck has been arrested and charged after police said he struck and killed a school crossing guard in Queens.
The driver, whose name was not immediately released by police, was charged with failure to use due care and failure to yield to a pedestrian, the NYPD said.
The NYPD said 63-year-old Krystyna Naprawa was struck around 8 a.m. Friday at the corner of Woodhaven Boulevard and Atlantic Avenue. The driver remained at the scene, according to police.
Naprawa worked as a school crossing guard with the NYPD for almost 13 years.
NYPD Police Commissioner Edward Caban said on X, formerly known as Twitter, that Naprawa dedicated her life to protecting children, putting her safety at risk. He said she won't be forgotten for her commitment to the community.
