Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz said in April 2021, Beauvais sped into Tsakos while he was diverting traffic after another accident on the Long Island Expressway around 2 a.m.

He was found with a severed leg more than 150 feet away from the highway’s shoulder, according to officials.

“One hundred and thirty-one vehicles drivers saw the flashing lights, saw the barricades, saw the police officers. Exited. This woman ran through that barricade. Barreled down a NYC police officer,” said Hendry.

Katz says the driver was under the influence and her blood alcohol level was twice the legal limit at the time of the incident.

“This was the result of someone who smoked and drank and got into a vehicle and got behind a wheel. You cannot do that,” said Katz.

On Tuesday, jurors convicted Beauvais of13 counts of aggravated manslaughter, vehicular manslaughter and leaving the scene of an incident without reporting.

Prosecutors say police followed Beauvais for 3 miles before she was arrested.

“Who does that? Someone who deserves to be behind bars. Someone who doesn’t deserve to be on the streets of N.Y. or anywhere else,” said Hendry.

Tsakos was a 14-year veteran of the police department. He left behind a wife and two children.

“Today is Halloween. Thanksgiving is coming. Christmas is coming. They’re not going to have a father again this year, but that’s up to all of us here to continue to be here for this family in any way we can possible,” said Hendry.

Beauvais faces up to 27 years in prison when she’s sentenced on Dec. 14.
