SOUTHBRIDGE, Mass. — Local leaders celebrate the opening of new senior housing with a ribbon cutting ceremony held at the Residences at Wells School Monday.
The more than 100-year-old historic school building was transformed into 62 apartments for seniors ages 55 and older. The renovations of the building cost $25.7 million.
Southbridge Town Manager Michael McCall said the town has been using state and federal funding to make improvements throughout the area.
“What’s great is the money that was put into play here to help develop this former historic building, breathe new life into for the next chapter of what’s going on in Southbridge,” McCall said.
Winn Development said almost all the apartments were leased.
The company said they plan to renovate the former American Optical building in Southbridge.
