HIGH PINT, N.C. — A North Carolina man is spreading awareness on a disease that is seen by few but felt by many.

Geovanni Hood is a carrier of sickle cell anemia. He's doing his part to shine the light on this chronic disease. 

“I’ve had sickle cell since birth. I’ve had to deal with it all my life,“ Hood said.

He's helping to advocate and bring awareness to the disease through his platform Awareness Challenge Worldwide. He uses his platform to fundraise for local nonprofit organizations and help those struggling with the disease.

“I know what it feels like for people to not understand what I go through on a daily basis," Hood said. "Or some have it worse than I do.“

Hood is challenging the community to donate $1,000 to Piedmont Health Services & Sickle Cell Agency. He plans to match the donation if the goal is met.

The fundraiser will run until September 30.
