WISCONSIN — Many may see their mom as a role model, well for two nurses at Ascension hospitals across southeastern Wisconsin, that just so happens to be the case. The Henley family has a handful of nurses in it. Three of those happen to all work at Ascension hospitals in Wisconsin.

It’s the start of night shift in the emergency room for ER nurse, Lauren Henley. She spends the beginning of her shift getting her rooms organized and ready for patients to come in. It’s a process she’s used to. Lauren has been a nurse for the past 10 years, traveling all over the US but her home base is here in Wisconsin.

“I was heavily influenced by my family. We grew up in the hospitals. My mom was coming on-shift she would pick us up from school, my dad would be coming off as an EMT, and pick us up when his shift was done,” Ascension ER nurse, Lauren Henley says.

It’s family affair that started with Lauren’s mom Kathleen, then her, and finally her younger sister Colleen. Colleen works as an ICU nurse, and you can tell she loves her job.

It is a career, inspired by her mom.

“My mom is just one of my biggest idols. We got there late, but she did have a lot of influence in what we are doing,” Ascension ICU nurse, Colleen Henley said.

For their mom Kathleen, knowing she was an inspiration is touching to hear.

“It’s really cool as a mom, because even though I was quiet about it, I think I made an impression on them, and it wasn’t very intentional,” Ascension ER nurse, Kathleen Henley said.

Now she’s able to see both her daughters excel in their careers, knowing she had a hand in inspiring their passion.

“My husband and I are really proud that they decided to go into nursing, and that they are doing the kind of nursing that they are doing, because they are doing it with a smile, and they are taking great care of people,” Kathleen Henley said.

It’s a cool thing to see a proud mother and her two daughters all working a selfless job, taking care of others.
