QUEENS, N.Y. - A Queens community board voted in favor of changes to the Flushing waterfront area after a fiery meeting Monday night.

Some protesters had to be escorted out by police as Community Board 7 discussed rezoning the Flushing Creek section.

Demonstrators are concerned over plans for a development project that would include 1,700 new apartments and nearly 900 hotel rooms, along with office and retail space.

Critics say the project could displace low and middle-income residents.

The board eventually approved the rezoning plan 30 to 8.

We caught up with some residents after the vote.

"There needs to be more information. There needs to be more process. There needs to be more public input. And there isn't enough in this," said one meeting attendee.

"I'm pro-development, for responsible development. I think they did a great job reaching out to the community and acting for the community input," said another meeting attendee.

The board's vote is only advisory.

The rezoning plan now goes to the Queens Borough President, the City Planning Commission, and the City Council.
