OUTER BANKS, N.C. – The famous wild horses of North Carolina’s Outer Banks will not be evacuated due to Hurricane Dorian.
- The Outer Banks horses are not being evacuated because of Dorian.
- They retreat to higher lands and take shelter under live oak trees during hurricanes.
- They've been doing this for 500 years.
According to the Corolla Wild Horse Fund, the horses are well-equipt to handle hurricanes and have been doing so for 500 years!
The horses retreat to higher ground and wait out storms under live oak trees.
Although the horses are not being evacuated, they are being monitored for their safety and well-being.
