With school just a few days away, many parents are still worried about purchasing supplies for their kids. Correction officers are hoping to relieve that stress.
The Department of Correction Fraternal Organizations hosted its first ever “Boldest Backpack Giveaway.” More than 3,000 backpacks were handed out to local students. The bags were also filled with folders, notebooks and pencils.
“We hope that the parents understand that correction is here for the community and the greater good of their children and that the children understand that them having a backpack and supplies if very important for them to be successful in their careers," Jessica Davis, Correction Officer.
New York City public schools are back in session this Thursday.
