With with the start of the new school year pretty much right around the corner, children and parents hit the streets of Astoria Ffor a day of fun activities and to stock up on some free school supplies.

Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens hosted its 11th Annual Kids Fun Day at Our Lady of Mount Carmel on Friday.  The event helps families get ready for the upcoming school year, by providing kids with essentials, including free backpacks filled with school supplies. 

There were also plenty of fun and educational activities to keep the kids and their parents busy. 

Debbie Hampson the Director Of Community Program Services for Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens says "community is very important to us. We like to be in on the street meeting the people and I think this is a way of doing it."

More than 35 local organizations were on hand at the fun filled event to give families information about their services.
