Prom season is approaching, and some police officers in Queens are helping teenage girls find the perfect dress.
The 113th Precinct hosted its 5th annual Prom Dress Drive on Saturday. During the first year of the event, 100 dresses were given out. It has since grown. The girls in need have more than 1,000 dresses to choose from this year. Shoes, accessories and tuxedos were also a part of the drive. Before taking the dresses home, the girls walked the red carpet and were escorted by an NYPD officer. Detective Tanya Duhaney organized this event to give every local girl a chance to wear the perfect dress on prom night.
“She opened up this spot for all of us to come here and get a dress, shoes, jewelry, makeup, so we can give a good time and look beautiful,” said Samara Willis, a senior at the High School for Law Enforcement and Public Safety.
The Prom Dress Drive will continue Sunday from 10AM to 4PM at the High School for Law Enforcement and Public Safety.
