Some Queens residents want to have a say in what their neighborhood will look like in the future.
Members of the Old Astoria Neighborhood Association are calling on the city to conduct a rezoning study of the neighborhood. They want it to focus on the area between Broadway and Queensboro Plaza. They say the area hasn't been rezoned in 60 years. Residents say the study would not only allow for neighborhood input but result in responsible development going forward.
"Accompanied with the proper community input, they'll create a mechanism for growth that improves the quality of life and takes into account the kind of growth we want to see," said Richard Khuzami who is the President of the Old Astoria Neighborhood Association.
A Department of City Planning spokesperson says they are always open to discussing land use requests with stakeholders.
