BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- Officials in Broome County made sure to take the necessary steps to be prepared for whatever may come their way Friday, as the snow continues to fall across the region.

The latest report from the National Weather Service called for 8 to 12 inches of snow in the Binghamton area. As a result, Broome County is one of the places under a travel advisory.

The DPW is making every effort to keep up with the falling snow, but at the same time, those plows are responsible for clearing nearly 325 miles of road.

Out on the highways, drivers have been forced to deal with white out conditions and heavy winds.

The Office of Emergency Services is working to share with local municipalities as the conditions get worse.

The National Weather Service is currently expecting a total of 8 to 12 inches to fall across the county throughout the day, with a considerable amount of heavy, wet snow falling in the hill top areas.

The 911 center has called in extra dispatchers as a precaution. County offices are open and will continue to monitor the weather as it progresses.

Law enforcement officials are reminding drivers to stay off the roads if possible. They say to keep cell phones fully charged and stay inside your vehicle if you do get into an accident.
