New York Cares held its annual event aimed at making a difference in local schools this weekend.
P.S. 183 on Beach 79th Street in Rockaway Beach, Queens was one of 38 schools that got some extra care thanks to the effort on Saturday.
New York Cares volunteers came ready and were armed paint brushes, shovels and other tools in order to spruce both areas in and around the school.
Schools chosen for the event all have students that come from low-income families.
“These schools sometimes are forgotten so we want to make sure if there’s a high need for support, that we prioritize those schools,” said Shelby Schebilski of New York Cares.
“They see fresh paint on our fences and the beautiful flowers outside of our building, they know that this is their home,” said Jessica Romero, the Principal P.S. 183.
This is the third time New York Care’s volunteers have helped out at P.S. 183.
Among the other schools that got a makeover were P.S. 20 on the Lower East Side, P.S. 107 in the Bronx and P.S. 59 in Bedford Stuyvesant.
