Springfield Gardens High School scores big with a brand new athletic field.

The school now has a state of the art multi-sport turf field thanks to a 250 thousand dollar grant.

The New York Jets, the NFL Foundation, and the Local Initiative Support Corporation presented the grant after school on Tuesday.

Former Jets player, Tony Richardson, was there to unveil the new field.

Student athletes say they can't wait to break it in.

"It feels good to be like the first girls, the first people ever to come play on the field, come open it up, hopefully we can come win and bring one home," said Imani Leitzsui, a junior at Springfield Gardens High School.

"Its amazing, that is my motivation, when the season comes, I just feel like my whole team is going to grind, we are going to work together. We are going to try to get the chip," said Joshua Alphonso, a junior at Springfield Gardens High School.

In addition, the Public School Athletic League got 50 grand to invest in their Girls Varsity Flag Football program.
