A donation to a local senior center in Bayside is helping to keep the party going for residents.
State Senator Tony Avella presented a check for $15,000 to the Catholic Charities Bayside Senior Center Friday morning. The presentation happened during the center's annual Mother's Day celebration.
The money is coming from the state budget.
The funds will go towards the center's health and educational programming, which includes tai chi, ballroom dancing, and computer classes.
“Without these senior centers, the seniors would be at home probably wasting away, watching TV. They come to this Center,” Avella said.
“This Center does so much for so many people that it's going to make a big impact,” added Bayside resident Doris Polansky. “It's going to give us more funds to have more programs.”
