ANTELOPE VALLEY, Calif., - Over 20 years in the California Highway Patrol has led to Captain Eric Broneer’s newest venture, commander of the CHP Antelope Valley area.
While he is no stranger to the Valley as law enforcement has taken Broneer all over the state. By starting his career in East Los Angeles in 1995, he fulfilled a dream to be a part of this reputable team.
“Just wanting to be able to have a diverse ability to do diverse assignments throughout the state of California. I’ve worked in different areas and been able to move all over,” said Broneer.
The husband and father of three is excited to be the newest leader. Having worked in the Antelope Valley for the past three and a half years as a lieutenant, he is familiar with what areas need improvement.
“Some things I’m not very happy with, particularly the fatal collisions that we’ve had lately here in the Antelope Valley,” said Broneer.
Broneer believes that a consistent law enforcement presence and educational campaigns are keys to making a difference, and he has some advice for drivers..
“My grandfather always taught me when I was learning how to drive that if you just pretend like there’s an officer behind you while you’re driving, and you always drive that way, then the odds of you ever becoming involved in an accident go way down,” said Broneer.
When he’s not working, Broneer loves to spend time with his family and go on camping trips.
Captain Broneer also wanted to mention that the CHP is hiring and he would love to see Antelope Valley residents be a part of the team. You can find more information on their website or the CHP Antelope Valley Area Facebook page.
