TROY, N.Y. -- Troy police have identified the man shot and killed Thursday. And police are still searching for two suspects.

Police identified the victim in the shooting as 24-year-old Dezmon Smith of Brooklyn.

The say as of Friday morning this is still an active investigation. No arrests have been made in the case.

Smith was shot near the intersection of Jefferson Street and 6th Avenue Thursday morning after, police say, there was some kind of altercation between him and two other men.

He was found lying in a cab when responders got to the scene. He was rushed to Albany Medical Center, had emergency surgery, but died from his injuries.

Police were looking for two suspects Thursday.

It is unclear what Smith was doing in Troy, but police say he does have family in the area.

Police say they do not believe this was a random act of violence.

“The investigation has really pretty clearly led us to believe that this was an intended victim, that it was not just some random act. So it is not just some people out there trying to find a victim. They knew who their victim was and how and why this occurred,” said Troy Police Captain Dan DeWolf.

Police say they're following up on several leads, but have no specific suspects.

Police are still gathering surveillance video from neighbors nearby that may help in the investigation.
