ITHACA, N.Y. -- Some former nurses at Cayuga Medical Center are voicing concerns about the facility following the death of a patient last month.
A man died after being found unresponsive in the ER waiting room.
The facility launched an internal investigation, saying the travel nurse didn't follow the protocol of taking vital signs.
They say she later falsified patient records, saying she had taken them.
The hospital says they are changing procedures and will re-train ER personnel following the incident.
Former nurses say administrators have been warned for years about critical staffing shortages and misallocated resources.
They say it wasn't a matter of if a situation like this would happen, but when, and they are worried about the future.
"There have been travelers again who have been put into triage since this event has occurred who have not been trained to be there," said Anne Marshall, Former Cayuga Medical Center ICU Nurse. "And this is with the Department of Health in the building I can't even think of what's going to happen when the Department of Health leaves."
The State Department of Health is continuing to investigate the matter.
