Workers collected two truck loads of E-waste from about 200 people Sunday, including everything from outdated computers to old cell phones.
The effort was a part of the partnership between the Botanical Gardens and the Lower East Side Ecology Center.
Organizers say events like this really do matter in the long run. It was also about protecting the environment at the Queens Botanical Gardens.
"A major part of our mission is sustainability and we are just thrilled to reduce any waste going into the city stream," said Regina Minerva with the Queens Botanical Gardens.
"Electronics have a lot of toxic materials in them so we really don't want that to end up in our landfills or our being burnt in an incinerator," said Christine Datz-Romero the Executive Director of the Lower East Side Ecology Center.
Last year over 70 similar events were held in the city, eliminating more than 1 million pounds of electronic waste.
