A U.S. Customs and Border Protection Canine Officer will be trading in his badge for an endless supply of bones and naps this week.

Jasper, featured in a NY1 story in January, has been referred to as one of agency's most valuable assets in protecting our nation's agriculture.

For years Jasper, a rescue dog, has served as one of the U.S. Department of Agriculture's 'Beagle Brigade.'

Members of the bridgade work with a human handler to search baggage coming into JFK Airport for illegal fruits, vegetables, food and other items.

A spokesperson from the Department of Homeland Security confirmed to NY1 on Sunday that Jasper will be retiring this week and will be honored with a special party.

Among the the craziest things that he's uncovered, according to his handler, was the discovery of a whole pigs leg, wrapped in paper, taped to the side of the bag.

Members of the Beagle Brigade live and work at JFK, so all of their food and vet costs are taken care of.
