Another tragic death for the St. John's University campus.
22 year old Tiarah Poyau was shot in the face and killed in Brooklyn early Monday morning. It happened during the festivities that lead up to the West Indian Day Parade known as Jouvert.
She was one of two people shot and killed during the celebration that has been marred by violence the past few year. This year, the shootings happened despite a beefed up police presence.
In a statement St. John's President told NY1
"Tiarah was pursuing a dual degree in the Peter J. Tobin College of Business where she recently completed her undergraduate degree in accounting in May , and had just begun graduate work toward her masters degree in taxation. She had a bright future ahead of her and was taken much too soon.
Last month, a journalism student at St. John's was shot and killed in Chicago. 19-year-old Arshell Dennis was visiting his family there and was about to return to New York to start his junior year at the school. His father is a police officer in the Chicago Police Department.
Also last month, 30 year old Karina Vetrano , an alum of St. John's was strangled and sexually assaulted while jogging near her home in Howard Beach. Her killer has not been captured.
