Some Queens students got a helping hand, on Saturday, as they work to prepare themselves for the upcoming school year.
State Senator Jose Peralta's office handed out 3,000 back packs during an event in Corona.
The bags were full of additional school necessities including notebooks, pencils, rulers, lunch boxes and headphones.
Peralta said he gives out the bags because economic times are tough and he wants the kids to be excited for the upcoming year.
"When they get something brand new like a book bag or school supplies, they get motivated. They get motivated to really do well in school. And this is about putting a smile on these kids face," said Queens Senator Jose Peralta.
"With four children, everything helps. Four book bags, that really helps with [my] budget [for the] children," said Jessica Lugo-Feliciano, a Corona resident.
This was the seventh year Peralta's office has distributed the bags.
