Francis Lewis High School went high tech this weekend as students from across the city participated in a robotics competition.

The School hosted the annual New York City First Tech Challenge.

Groups of up to ten students teamed up with coaches and professional engineer volunteers to design, build, and program robots-- that can overcome different challenges.

This year students were asked to build a robot that can climb stairs.

Competitors say it's exhilarating to watch their ideas come to life.

"Oh my, that's really amazing cause it's like our baby," said student Leda Obergh. "Sometimes we want to kill it cause it's so — make us a lot of problem.

"Right now we're having a lot of problem with it because it don't want to do anything right now, but we really love it because it's the effort of our work."

The top prize is the Innovation Award. Day two of the competition continued Sunday.
