Queens adventure-seekers get ready! A free obstacle course in our borough is officially open for the season. NY1's Shannan Ferry filed this report.

Whether you're looking to zipline through the forest, scale across a rock climbing wall, or conquer the challenge of balancing yourself high up in sky, you don't have to travel far to find a little adventure.

Tucked away in Alley Pond Park's six hundred and fifty-five acre stretch of land - is the largest obstacle course in the metropolitan region.

And, from now until November- it's open to the public - and free every Sunday.

"So far I think it's pretty fun," one young participant told NY1. "And pretty challenging!"

Participants split up into groups guided by a parks facilitator.  Along with high-intensity challenges, there are also team-building trust games.

"You don't have to be a super athlete to do these things," said John McCoy, the Manager of Alley Pond Park Adventure Course.  "If you can climb up a ladder and you have decent balance, you'd be fine."

You have to be at least eight years old to take part in the adventure course and for some of the activities a helmet and a harness are mandatory. Participants must register online in advance for the course during July and August.  Otherwise, it's first come first serve.
