CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. -- Jim Ritts won the Republican primary race for Ontario County District Attorney with 55 percent of the vote.

The position was up for grabs after current District Attorney Mike Tantillo announced that he was not seeking re-election.

Ritts will be the county's first new District Attorney in 28 years.

Ritts had 3,100 votes over Kitty Karle's 2,500.

Karle did not appear after the results for comment. She will appear on the Conservative and Independence lines in November.

Ritts tells us he wants to focus on the opiod epidemic and bring drug prevention to local schools.

"I've been here for 18 years," he said. "We've been involved in the community for 21 years. This is home. The opportunity to be here and to continue to represent the folks we live around, that we live with is amazing."
