In a victory for abortion rights, advocates a proposed amendment that looks to codify abortion rights and expand anti-discrimination protections is back on the ballot in November.
The move overturns a decision last month by an upstate judge that had the referendum thrown off the ballot.
On Tuesday, a panel of appellate judges ruled that the plaintiffs suing to block the amendment missed a key deadline to bring their legal challenge under a four-month statute of limitations.
The Equal Rights Amendment would effectively prevent a person from being discriminated against for having an abortion.
Sasha Ahuja, the campaign director for New Yorkers for Equal Rights, a coalition leading the effort to get the amendment passed, joined NY1 political anchor Errol Louis on “Inside City Hall” Wednesday to discuss the ruling.
“We are so glad that the appellate division decided in voters’ favors. Voters’ voices will be heard,” she said.
