Legendary acts like The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Frank Sinatra and The Stones have performed at Forest Hills Stadium.

The stadium is continuing a tradition of hosting the greats of music this summer.

What You Need To Know

  • Forest Hills Stadium in Queens is celebrating its 100th birthday

  • It was originally built for the U.S. Open tennis tournament

  • It hosted the tournament until the late 1970s before, and became a popular concert venue in the 1960s

The venue was first built as the home of the U.S. Open tennis tournament, played there until the late 1970s, when it moved to nearby Flushing Meadows.

In the 1960s, it became a popular concert venue, with a who’s who in music gracing the stage at one time or another.

“We feel privileged to be able to add another piece of history to this great place,” Jason Brandt, the stadium’s general manager, said.

This season will bring acts like Weezer, Dave Matthews, Duran Duran, LCD Soundsystem, Zach Bryan and Rock the Bells Festival, who are celebrating 50 years of hip-hop.

“It’s definitely an eclectic mix, but it’s carefully curated,” Brandt said. “We don’t want to just live in one corner of the music world.”

The stadium is nestled within a residential Queens neighborhood, close to the Austin Street and 71st Avenue business district.

Some unique features include secret speakeasy suites, one that visitors enter through a mock port-o-potty.

Brandt says the venue seats up to 13,000 fans, but is about as intimate as a stadium can get.

“The bands love it because they get the energy of 12 thousand fans, but they also feel like they can see and talk to everyone,” he said.
