A solemn mass is being held Friday night in Rochester for Pope Francis.
It's happening at 7 p.m. at the Sacred Heart Cathedral on Flower City Park.
Pope Francis died on Monday after having a stroke. His body has been lying in state at St. Peter's Basilica in Vatican City. The last numbers released by the Vatican said more than 50,000 people had paid their last respects in the first 12 hours of the public viewing starting at 11 a.m. Wednesday.
A funeral Mass including heads of state will be held Saturday in St. Peter's Square. The pope will then be buried in a niche within the St. Mary Major Basilica, near his favorite Madonna icon.
Francis served a 12-year pontificate. He was 88 years old.
