The United Network for Organ Sharing reports there were more than 46,000 organ transplants in the United States last year.

Right now, more than 100,000 people are waiting for a new kidney, liver, heart, or lung — including nearly 8,000 New Yorkers.

A recent investigation looked into that process — that system for who gets an organ and when —
and found some jarring inequities.

Brian Rosenthal, New York Times reporter and one of the lead investigators of the report, joined “The Rush Hour” on Tuesday to talk about his findings, and what changes can be made to the current system.
