NEW YORK — "It showed her character. It showed how she feels the entitlement," said Kat Rodriguez, the mother of a Black teenager falsely accused of stealing a woman's phone at a New York City hotel on December 26.

Rodriguez says Miya Ponsetto’s wild interview with CBS This Morning’s Gayle King was unacceptable:

King: You are old enough to know better. So I will say, you are 22 —

Ponsetto: — all right, Gayle. Enough. The hotel did have my phone.

Rodriguez says the woman’s apology was also unacceptable. Ponsetto allegedly attacked Rodriguez's 14-year-old son, Keyon Harrold Jr., after falsely accusing him of stealing her phone at the Arlo Hotel in Soho.

"I do sincerely, from the bottom of my heart, apologize that if I made the son feel as if I assaulted him, or if I hurt his feelings," Ponsetto said in the interview.

Rodriguez: One thing that stood out the most was, yeah, I apologize, can we move on?

Ruschell: Do you accept her apology?

Rodriguez: Does that sound like a sincere apology? ... It’s much bigger than an apology right now.

Ponsetto was arrested and taken into custody for extradition to New York just hours after sitting down with King for the interview.

Keyon Harrold, who recorded the video of her attacking his son, says an arrest is not enough. He wants her convicted.

"It’s the first step in many steps that we are taking to learn what justice is for young Black people, for Black people, and for just not being falsely accused," Harrold said.

Ponsetto claimed she was stopping everyone in the lobby about the phone, which was reportedly returned by an Uber driver. She also accused the boy’s father of attacking her, which he says is false.

"Seems to be that minorities at this hotel were allowed to be profiled, and there was this perception that this person was a white woman and that those minorities had to prove that they were not guilty. And it’s just outrageous," attorney Benjamin Crump said.

The boy's family says he has been traumatized by the experience. They are considering legal action against the hotel, but they say the focus right now is on Ponsetto’s prosecution.
