New York state K-12 schools have reported more than 21,000 coronavirus cases since Sept. 13, with 82% of those cases coming from students, according to regional data published Tuesday by the state Department of Health.
New York City schools lead the list with 4,252 cases. The Mohawk Valley has the least reported cases of any region in the state at 874.
Outside of NYC and Long Island, the Finger Lakes has the third highest caseload of any region at 2,229. The Western New York area is at 1,762 cases. Central New York schools reported 2,028 cases since Sept. 13.
Capital Region schools have reported 1,710 cases. The North Country has had 1,161 cases.
The state's COVID-19 Report Card tracks data across school districts, public and private, across the state, as well as charter and BOCES programs.
In total, 17,481 students have tested positive since Sept. 13, and a total of 30,474 school-aged children have tested positive since Sept. 1, according to state data. Teachers and staff, who fall under a statewide vaccine-or-test mandate, have accounted for 3,739 cases.
