NEW YORK - The city Department of Transportation is defending its work to address bike parking around the five boroughs.

It comes after a scathing report from Transportation Alternatives.

The report detailed the lack of bike parking and the need for more transportation infrastructure.

It also points out bike thefts were up nearly 30% in 2020. One in four households had a bike stolen.

In its response, the DOT says it created more than 1,100 new bike spaces last year and is working on adding more this winter.

The agency adds it also performed maintenance and repairs on bike racks.
