In a letter sent to the campus community Tuesday, Binghamton University administrators announced that the school will go fully remote starting Wednesday.
According to the letter, the campus had reached the state-mandated threshold of 100 positive COVID-19 cases. The letter states that this is "no surprise" to officials, as they had ramped up testing to reach every student before the Thanksgiving holiday and that 5,000 tests had been completed over the last seven days.
The campus' positivity rate stands at 1.61%, while the surrounding community rests at 3.2%.
Designated study spaces, student dorms, and medical services will remain open and accessible to students. Additionally, students with in-person labs or internship requirments will be able to continue as usual. Exams scheduled for November 22-24 will be held online at the same date and time as they were scheduled in-person.
Students are asked to remain where they are until the Thanksgiving break and to continue to attend their scheduled testing, per the requirements detailed by the SUNY chancellor.
Residents halls are set to close Wednesday, November 25 at 2 p.m. for the semester.
