Calls are growing on elected officials to more strongly condemn anti-Semitic crimes.
Demonstrators held a rally at City Hall yesterday where they pointed to police statistics that show a 60-percent jump in anti-Semitic hate crimes.
The NYPD is stepping up security at houses of worship ahead of the Jewish High Holy Days.
"Anti-Semitic attacks are more numerous than all other racial attacks against all other protected groups in this city. The idea of Jewish people being victimized by contingents that are not right wing, white supremacist that we kind of picture as being in other parts of the country," said one demonstrator.
The mayor's office responded to the rally with a statement, saying in part “The Mayor and the City of New York have absolutely zero tolerance for any form of Anti- Semitism. Our message is and always will be clear: hate will not be tolerated in this City.”
