NEW YORK - The woman who climbed the Statue of Liberty last July 4th will not be spending any time behind bars.

Patricia Okoumou was sentenced Tuesday to five years probation and 200 hours of community service.

She had faced up to 18 months in jail for her stunt which drew worldwide attention.

She arrived at the courthouse Tuesday morning with her eyes and mouth taped shut, saying it's a symbol the government is trying to silence her from protesting President Donald Trump's immigration policy.

At the time, she said she climbed the statue protest the separation of families at the Mexican border.

A judge convicted Okoumou of trespassing in December after a bench trial.

Okoumou was arrested again last month after scaling a building in Austin, Texas to protest immigration.
