Firefighters, police officers, doctors and workers from several other professionals stopped by the Armory in Washington Heights on Wednesday for the first ever "Real Heroes" Day.
Organizers said that the event offered attendees a chance to have positive experiences with the individuals in attendance, who often only show up when tragedy strikes.
They added that the event also served as an opportunity to honor those professionals who serve our community.
"We put this uniform on every day and, you know, kids see us in a different type of way. And just to come here and, and demonstrate that we can play and we can run with them is, is, feels very good," said the NYPD’s Amber Guzman.
Organizers said they plan on inviting the heroes back for the "Uptown Games", their track and field meet, which is scheduled for next month.
