Restaurateur Jean-Claude Baker has died.
Baker was found at his home in East Hampton and is believed to have committed suicide.
The French-American opened "Chez Josephine" in 1986, a restaurant staple in the theatre district on 42nd Street.
It's named after entertainer Josephine Baker, who he called his unofficial adopted mother. He also wrote the definitive biography on her called "Josephine: the Hungry Heart."
Baker came to America as a singer with his mother in the early '70s. He performed in West Berlin and soon began playing clubs in New York.
Jean-Claude Baker was 71 years old.
