Catholics around the world are in mourning after the Vatican announced the death of Pope Francis on Monday.

Francis had been in poor health, but was seen a number of times during Holy Week.

Francis gave the traditional Easter blessing from the balcony of St. Peter’s Basilica in Vatican City Sunday.

Cardinals across the globe are expected to gather in Rome to mourn the pontiff and then elect his successor.
