Elizabeth Oyer is a former U.S. pardon attorney at the Department of Justice.
She was fired last month. Oyer says it’s because she refused to recommend actor Mel Gibson, a longtime Trump supporter, to be added to a list of people to have their gun rights restored.
The pardon attorney is not a political appointee and their sole mission is to provide neutral advice on cases of people seeking clemency.
Oyer has since testified that she believes the justice department is being abused by the Trump administration and she is not alone.
Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer released a statement announcing he will block the Senate from appointing the U.S. Attorney nominees for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York.
Schumer says Trump is using the DOJ for his own personal reasons.
Oyer joined NY1 political anchor Errol Louis on “Inside City Hall” Wednesday to discuss more.
