R&B and soul music artist Eric Roberson, who has performed in New York City for many years, will be marking a major musical milestone this weekend.
Roberson will be performing at the Apollo Theater in Harlem on Saturday at 7 p.m. He says he has performed there many times, including as a member of a children’s choir and professionally for the first time back in the 1990s. He had the chance to be the opening act for singer El DeBarge.
After three decades in the music business, the Rahway, New Jersey native, is headlining his own show for the first time at the legendary theater.
“It’s really a dream come true, and it really comes full circle to the first time I got on as an artist to open for El [DeBarge], and to be so nervous to not mess up and hope I get everything right,” he said. “I am proud of that kid that kept working, and you had many ups and downs, but you have to keep going and keep working and tomorrow is really a celebration for that.”
Roberson describes his style of R&B music as loving and uplifting.
